Thin Screens

Thin Screens is a design project that explores modern human connections in the context of diversity and inclusion.

Problem statement: People often want to broaden their perspectives through meaningful conversations with those who might not be the same as them.

Connections cannot be formed due to unspoken, immediate social barriers.

Thin Screens is an experiential activity where users interact with each other by answering questions simultaneously without knowing who the other person is.

It provides an experience for strangers to connect without being held back by preconceptions or social anxiety. Starting with simple, low effort questions, the questions becomes gradually more personal. At the end of the activity, users can meet each other and interact in person if they choose to.

This fall semester was spent designing this project, and the upcoming spring semester will focus on its implementation at the 2020 Raw Expo at Cornell University.
